Simple Grilled Salmon Recipe
Catch and Cook with Cannon Downriggers
Looking for a simple salmon recipe? You've come to the right place. This recipe allows for the natural light flavor of salmon to come out for all to enjoy.
When we catch limits of pink salmon, many think that they have to fire up the smoker to cook them. While properly smoked salmon is very tasty, when you catch fish that is super bright the meat is very firm it can be used in many recipes. This recipe can be used for all types of salmon.
*Important Notes:
Pink Salmon has the lowest oil content. Chum is second, Cohos have even more oil, and Chinook (King) salmon has the most oil content. You have to adjust your cook time based on the type of oil content in the salmon. In other words, Pink salmon may cook only 1 - 1.5 minutes per side, while Coho may cook 2 - 3 min per side. Chinook (King Salmon) may go 4 min.
It is important to not overcook the fillets. Overcooking causes it to be dry. It all depends on the thickness of the fillet, so it's important to keep a close eye on it as it cooks. How to make this simple salmon recipe
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 2-4 minutes
- Serves: 2-10 people
Ingredients:
- Salmon fillets for however many people you intend to feed. Leave skin on filet
- Kosher Salt
- Coarse Pepper
- Sesame Oil
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Steps:
- Salmon fillets should be clean, cool, and dry to the touch.
- Apply pepper & kosher salt to both sides of the fish.
- Cover and sit for 1/2 hour at room temperature.
Grill: Heat up your grill to 350 degrees
- Brush extra virgin olive oil on both sides of the salmon
- Just before you put the salmon on the grill, brush the grill with olive oil or use nonstick spray. This will prevent the fish from sticking
- Put salmon on the grill skin side down
- After about one minute on the grill, lightly brush the top of the salmon with sesame oil
- Cook 1-1/2 – 4 minutes per side *See notes above
- When you flip the salmon, lightly brush the skin side with some sesame oil
Serve with fresh grilled or steamed vegetables and some rice.
You can also cook this on a non-stick pan:
- Pour 4-6 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a non-stick pan
- Heat the pan on medium-high heat
- After the oil heats up and just a few moments before you put the salmon in, put in 1 tbs of sesame oil.
- The sesame oil will infuse with the olive oil
- Put in salmon skin side down first
- Cook 1 1/2 – 4 minutes per side *See notes above
- You will see the salmon cook thru. Do not overcook it!.
- Flip and cook the flesh side
